I’m back!

August 13th, 2008

Hey guys! Long time no blogging :(. Sorry to the MAJOR lack of posts…..it’s not that I don’t love you-I really do. But its A) Im already training for my next thing B)Im apsultly obsorbed into the Olympics and C)I had already written a post, and thought it was published, but ovbously not. Because I really can’t rember much-and cos it’s quick. I will just post a quick summary for each day.

Day one: Land’s End to Golant

My first day in the saddle and due to the fact the silly sign post isn’t errected till 09:30 it was a late start. To me it seems a complete rip off that it costs 10 quid to have your photo taken by a sign post, bust after a phone call to double check it’s ok with my parents, it was agreed that it was the must have photo! So here I am in my BHF t-shirt at the signpost-

At the hotel, where I “checked in” for my ride (If you will excuse the punn!) me and my Nan met a nice lady who was supporting a group of 4 guys, doing the ride in memory of Katrina, group leader James Brown’s wife, who tragically died of an unidentified heart condition- Sudden Death Syndrome. C.R.Y’s (Cardiac Risk in the Young) aim is to raise awareness of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome in local communities, provide medical information and offer support to those who have suffered loss beacuse of the condition.

To read more about James, Nigel, Tom and Graham- their ride and infomation about C.R.Y, click HERE

Anyway-the guys eventually turned up after having my photo taken at the sign post, and we had a quick chat…they were abit ashamed at the lack of lugagge on their bikes, but never the less they were doing it in 10 days, not the 14-16 I was aiming for.

after our chat, I headed for the start line. Where I was to start this epic journey-

I’m not sure if I got lost as early as the first few miles and took the wrong turn, or whether or not the atlas was wrongly laid out, but after about 7 miles. I was back on route, and already boiling. Here I am stopped at a post office getting a drink at a village [that I have forgotten the name of!]:

I then headed on to penzance…where I abruptly got lost. This however- is though no fault of my own. But Sustrans who’s routes I could moan at all day…..

Unfortunatly, as I only found out the night before I am leaving, I wont be able to update anymore until I get back in 16 days. Please DO check my photos as all of them are online now.

Hope you have enjoyed a little taster of my journey….plenty more to come.

The generosity of others….

July 17th, 2008

When a ten year old donates five pounds of her own money to you, it would be an understatement to say it touches your heart. I don’t think people may release how much the support that I have been given has meant to me. But I think this is because everybody’s generosity has left me totally speechless. People who I do not even know have donated on my justgiving site and at a recent primary school BBQ old family friends who we have not spoken to in years have sponsored me.

But this five pounds means so much to me. From a girl who has no income. Has taken it from her own savings. Yet knows what good it could do.

Who could ask for a greater cousin?

The Oxford Mail and various….

June 24th, 2008

My local paper “Oxford Mail” are doing a article about the ride! This post is really just to thank Chris Walker, who I can tell is putting a lot of hours in to researching it and writing it! I really do appreciate it! Also just another quick thank you to the Oxford Mail photographer, who embarrassingly I have forgotten his name! A very skilled guy anyway and I enjoyed the photo shoot a lot!

It still hasn’t set in that its like nearly three weeks away, it’s rather scary! I havn’t got much sponsorship money, and it is something I really ought to get a move on with! But I can’t bring my self to confront people and ask for money! I just feel abit to much of a scab! Then again most of my year are doing it for their trip to Barbados, wheres the charity in that? Anyway, I won’t go into all of that as I will end up digging my self into a nice round hole! This reminds me, I owe Abbie a quid, whoops!

Thanks for reading, I really do appreciate it!

Palmer Park-First time on track

June 24th, 2008

I had great fun in Reading, out on the track on Saturday! I did about 23 miles of going around a 480 meter track, which in my: Cluttered, unorganised, spacious, maths forgotten brain is errr 77 laps of the track!

I some how managed to win the “Senior Training Trophy” and managed to keep up with them all!

I could tell right from the outside that the standard of coaching and teamwork was immense, and I felt like I had been treated as equally as the best and longest riding riders there! So I would just like to thank Shane and Tim for their expert coaching and advice as well as Frazier and Will who “showed me the ropes”. An ace introduction into track racing. I will be going back!

The quality of riders is also amazing, I know that there is at least two members that are cycling for GB, one of which I knew 7 years ago, and I haven’t seen since [Hannah Barnes]! But I am sure to meet her soon I suppose! But even the under 10 riders were impressive, David Barnes broke two club records in one day! Oh what a ace use of a Saturday morning!

Thanks guys!

Mmmm…I’m in there somewhere! [Black and blue jersey!]

Exams over…

June 13th, 2008

Now all my GCSE’s are over I can finally knuckle down to some serious training. I am planning on doing 50-60 a day for about 3 weeks after school as well as some longer distances, as at the moment I am only doing small rides during the week, and long ones at weekends. The fact its 5 weeks away hasn’t set in yet! Ive only got £100 of sponsorship, I had better get a move on…….

A land mark in my cycling-

June 2nd, 2008

Yesterday marked a land mark in my cycling history, I joined my first official cycling club- Palmer Park Velo. The reason I joined was that I want to learn to race on the track as well as cycle road and meet people of a similar age who are interested in the sport! I also hope that I can represent PPV during the trip! I have my first session AND race on the 21st of June! Wish me luck =] !
